It's 1999. Aimee is hosting her very first sleepover. You’re invited.
At what seems like an ordinary adolescent gathering, familiar rituals take on magical qualities as each sleepover guest reveals a painful foundational belief she no longer wants to have. Things get increasingly strange as the girls accompany one another through their sometimes violent and ecstatic transformations, finding that, in one way or another, the belief they brought with them is fundamentally altered upon waking up the next morning. This original devised performance created by The Party (Big Love, 2018) draws inspiration from Adrian Shirk's critically-acclaimed And Your Daughters Shall Prophesy, a spiritual autobiography and feminist history of American prophetesses who reinvented their faith traditions and cultural mores, and who asked, much like the guests at our sleepover: How are beliefs formed, and how can they change?
