War & Beat is a high-voltage expansion of IMGRNT’s boundary-defying allegory for the immigrant experience through the lens of alien invasion and occupation. Building on Kindling Arts Festival 2024’s buzzworthy debut, this immersive work blends acid-techno and psychedelic trance with movement, striking visuals, and bold costuming to embody themes of dislocation, defiance, and the fight for belonging. IMGRNT’s confrontational performance probes universal aspects of immigrant identity, including isolation, the complex struggle of assimilation, and the rightful claim to dignity and belonging.

 

Visceral and urgent, War & Beat confronts our preconceptions of those we deem “alien” and asks: Who is an invader, who is a neighbor, and who gets to decide?
